I will be making a similar cake in the near future. What is the trick to making the bottom portion denser so the top cake doesn’t crush it? Or rather, is the top portion hollow and the stem of the mushroom taller? Thanks!

We use a support system of dowels and cake boards between the layers to support the weight of the top cake.
